December 05, 2023 – In a resplendent celebration of culture, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Konark Dance Festival and International Sand Art Festival on December 1 in Odisha’s historic Puri district.

Patnaik, in a video message, extended a warm welcome to attendees in the breathtaking open-air auditorium against the grand backdrop of the 13th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Sun Temple. He emphasized the upcoming showcase of Odissi and other classical dance performances by artists from India and across the globe.

Konark Dance Festival: A Feast of Classical Delights

Organized by the Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi and Odisha Tourism Development Corporation, the five-day Konark Dance Festival is set to dazzle spectators with a myriad of classical dance forms. From December 1 to 5, the festival will feature captivating performances, including Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri, Kathakali, Kathak, Kuchipudi, and Sattriya.

International Sand Art Festival: Sculpting Wonders on Chandrabhaga Beach

Simultaneously, the renowned International Sand Art Festival unfolds on the shores of Chandrabhaga Beach. Now in its 13th edition, the festival features 114 artists from India and around the world, sculpting delicate masterpieces from soft golden sands. Sudarsan Pattnaik, the esteemed sand artist and Padma Shree awardee, leads the event as its brand ambassador. Originating in 2015 as part of the Konark Dance Festival, the sand art festival enchants spectators with its creative brilliance.

Eco Retreat Camps: A Blend of Luxury and Adventure

Complementing these cultural events is the Eco Retreat, Odisha Tourism’s annual flagship camping event. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik virtually inaugurated the 5th edition, introducing three additional locations – Konark, Sonapur, and Bhitarkanika. From December 1, tourists can embark on a journey across seven picturesque locations, promising a blend of luxury, adventure, local culture, and gastronomic delights. The venues feature luxury tents, offering visitors an immersive glamping experience.
