November 06, 2022 – The full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is called Kartik Purnima. This year Kartik Purnima is on November 08. Bathing and donating in the holy river on the day of Kartik Purnima is believed to bring happiness and good fortune. Kartik Purnima is also known as Dev Deepawali. According to religious beliefs, on this day, Lord Shiva killed the demon Tripurasura. Hence it is also known as Tripuri or Tripurari Poornima. According to another belief, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu took the Matsya avatar on the day of Kartik Purnima. Kartik Purnima Tithi is very dear to Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi. The date of Kartik Purnima is considered the best to please Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, To please Goddess Lakshmi on Kartik Purnima, Mahalakshmi Stuti should be recited.

What not to do on Kartik Purnima

  • On the day of Kartik Purnima, tamasic food like meat, wine, egg, onion, and garlic should not be used.
  • Follow celibacy on this day to get the blessings of Chandradev on the day of Kartik Purnima. If possible, sleep on the ground.
  • There should not be any quarrel in the house on this day.
  • Do not speak harsh words or insult anyone on the day of Kartik Purnima, poor, helpless, elderly, or anyone.
