Earthquake Tremors Felt Again in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand

November 16, 2023 – Once again, the seismic tremors of an earthquake were felt in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred late at night at two minutes past two. Its intensity was measured at 3.1 on the Richter scale. There is no information about any damage. The epicenter of the earthquake was beneath the ground, five kilometers within the forest area of the Sankari Singh Tour Range, under the Mori subdivision.

Mostly Affected Zones in Uttarakhand are Zones Four and Five

According to seismologists at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Uttarakhand remains highly sensitive to earthquakes. The majority of the earthquake-prone areas in Uttarakhand fall under Zone Four and Zone Five. This recurring pattern of earthquake incidents in these zones is why Uttarakhand frequently experiences such seismic events.
