Glacier Burst in Niti Valley at Sumna, Joshimath Uttarakhand

Update (04:30 PM, 24/April/2021): Reports of at least 8 Deaths, 6 Critical & 391 Rescued till now as rescue operation is going on by Army, SDRF, NDRF, ITBP & District Administration


A Glacier burst has been reported in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath near India-China border. The incident took place around Sumna village. According to authorities they are unable to know the exact situation of the region due to bad weather.

Water level of Rishi Ganga has risen by 2 feet. The main reason behind this is said to be heavy snow fall in the region.


According to sources the burst took place near the post of 8 battalion ITBP between Malari and Sumna village near the BRO office.

An alert has already been issued by the state government.
