January 03, 2024: If you’re a road trip enthusiast, gear up for an exciting journey as the construction of the Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Access Controlled Expressway is making swift progress. This six-lane expressway, stretching over 212 kilometers, promises to revolutionize road travel, connecting Delhi and Dehradun with unprecedented speed and convenience. With an expected operational launch in March of this year, here’s why this ambitious project is set to redefine your road trip experience.
Cutting-Edge Travel
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is divided into four segments, navigating through key locations like Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, Mandola’s EPE interchange, Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, before reaching its final destination in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. With a substantial investment exceeding INR 10,000 crore, the primary goal is to significantly reduce travel time.
Upon completion, the journey from Delhi to Haridwar or Dehradun is expected to be streamlined to approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, a remarkable improvement from the current six to five-hour travel time. A standout feature is the introduction of a 12-kilometer-long wildlife elevated corridor, the largest in Asia, ensuring undisturbed movement for wildlife. A 340-meter tunnel near the Dat Kaali temple in Dehradun has been strategically designed to minimize disruptions to wildlife, incorporating multiple animal passes to mitigate the risks of animal-vehicle collisions.
Boosting Economy and Tourism
Beyond enhancing travel, the expressway aims to invigorate the regional economy and catalyze tourism. The comprehensive initiative includes the construction of five road overbridges, 110 vehicle underpasses, and 76 kilometers of service roads in densely populated zones, along with a collective stretch of 29 kilometers of elevated sections. Sixteen strategically placed entry-exit points provide seamless access throughout the corridor.
Engineered for a minimum speed of 100 kilometers per hour, the expressway is equipped with planned amenities every 25-30 kilometers. Operating under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode, the project promises enhanced road user experiences and improved connectivity for all. With a focus on benefiting Uttarakhand’s flourishing tourism sector, this transformative development is poised to fuel regional economic growth, making it a road trip adventure you wouldn’t want to miss.
Get ready to hit the fast lane as the Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Expressway paves the way for a new era in road travel, offering a seamless blend of speed, convenience, and wildlife-friendly infrastructure.
