December 12, 2023 – The picturesque mountainous districts of Uttarakhand experienced a delightful weather transformation on Tuesday afternoon as snowfall graced the landscape. Villages like Yamunotri Dham, Kharshali, Jankichatti, Narayanpuri, and the charming town of Auli were blanketed in snow, offering a breathtaking spectacle. Auli, with its maximum temperature at nine degrees and a minimum of minus two, now wears a winter wonderland attire. Similarly, Badrinath Dham recorded a maximum of three degrees and a minimum of minus four, while Joshimath experienced a maximum of 12 degrees and a minimum of seven.
This snowfall comes as a treat for the higher-altitude areas, while lower regions in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts are anticipating light rainfall. Additionally, areas above 3,000 meters are expected to witness snowfall, enhancing the region’s scenic beauty.
According to the Meteorological Center’s forecast, the state is expected to see partially cloudy skies around December 12. Meanwhile, the plains might experience morning fog, adding to the winter charm. Bikram Singh, the Director of the Meteorological Center, mentioned that the slight dip in temperatures occurred after mild rainfall and snowfall at the beginning of December.
The recent change in weather has brought delight to the residents of the mountainous regions, and there’s a possibility of a further drop in temperatures in the coming days. The winter rain and snowfall are crucial for the formation of snow cover, especially in the higher-altitude regions, contributing to glacier recharge and increased water levels in rivers. The direct impact of this will be felt in the temperatures of the upcoming days, enhancing the overall winter experience in Uttarakhand.
