June 3, 2021 – Finally, after 4 days the Rishikesh – Badrinath Highway is now open for light vehicles, but the situation is still critical. The NH and the executive body have not been able to prepare a concrete action plan for a complete solution to the problem.
Landslides continued on Wednesday from the hill near Narkota, eight km from the district headquarter Rudraprayag. Due to which the NH and the working organization were facing difficulty in clearing the highway. After the stones and debris stopped falling from the hill from 3 pm onwards, the NH and the executive organization carried out the work of cleaning the debris from the two-way Pokeland and JCB expeditiously.
After two hours of hard work, the movement of small vehicles started on the highway at 5 pm. For larger vehicles, it may still take two to three days to operate. Significantly, on Sunday night, 40 meters of the highway collapsed due to the debris and stones that fell from the hill. The width of the road here is barely two meters.
On the other hand, Yamunotri Highway was blocked on Wednesday night due to landslide near Kharadi.
