August 10, 2023 – The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in four districts of Uttarakhand. According to Vikram Singh, the Director of the Meteorological Department, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Pauri are likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in Dehradun, Tehri, Almora, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar as well. Additionally, there is a risk of strong winds and storms lasting three to four hours during the rain. People living near rivers are advised to remain cautious until August 15.
All Schools in Five Districts to Remain Closed Tomorrow
Taking the Meteorological Department’s rainfall alert into account, all schools in Champawat, Bageshwar, Pauri, Nainital, and Chamoli districts have been declared closed on August 10. As per the weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall along with lightning is anticipated in Chamoli district on Wednesday. In light of this, all government, non-government, and private schools (from class one to twelve) as well as anganwadi centers have been given a holiday.
225 Roads Still Closed in the State Due to Natural Disasters
Amid the ongoing natural calamities in the state, 225 roads remain closed till Wednesday. These include two national highways, 13 state highways, motor roads connecting eight districts, four external motor routes, and roads of 89 villages. Furthermore, 109 village roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are also closed. Efforts are being made by the government to reopen these roads.
