
<p>December 06, 2023 – In an extraordinary turn of events, the beloved tourist destination of Lachung in North Sikkim has triumphed over the aftermath of October&#8217;s flash floods, welcoming visitors once again to its breathtaking landscapes. The announcement, made by a well-informed official, signifies the success of extensive road restoration efforts, allowing this picturesque haven to reopen its doors to tourists starting this Friday.</p>



<p>Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Secretary, Prakash Chettri, shared the positive news, revealing that Lachung is now accessible via an alternative route through Dzongu-Shipgyer. Although this alternate pathway extends the journey by an additional 16-17 km, it promises a scenic and enchanting approach to this captivating destination. Lachung officially resumed its tourist activities on December 1, with Chettri extending a warm invitation to all planning to explore Lachung-Yumthang in the northern part of Sikkim.</p>



<p>However, it&#8217;s essential to note that while Lachung is now accessible, the route to Lachen-Gurudongmar point remains temporarily closed. Ongoing restoration work is diligently addressing the aftermath of the flash floods that wreaked havoc on road infrastructure and connectivity in North Sikkim towns like Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang almost two months ago.</p>
