The dark and grim history of the mines can be traced back to the year 1990s, when about 50,000 people and even more worked in the mine. Due to poor infrastructure at that point of time, most of the workers had a very painful death due to suffocation or getting collapsed under the rubble of the mine. After a lot of deaths occurred, the mines were shut down in order to stop the deaths, but the story does not stop right there! The locals in this place consider this spot to be haunted and have narrated many incidents which do not comply with any logical explanation. In Uttarakhand, this is one of the most ghostly and spooky places.

Many of the people have mentioned that there has been a number of fatal road accidents in this place without any perfect cause. Cars and trucks sliding off the road and helicopters crashed on the mines without any reason, and that adds to the affirmation that the spot is indeed haunted.

The locals also believe in the fact that the mines are possessed by a witch and at night her shrieks can be heard which are capable of bringing goosebumps. After dark no one hovers near the spot and the road by the mine is absolutely empty. Strange noises have been reported, and mostly those have been identified as painful cries and groaning.

The Lambi Dehar Mines is located near Mussoorie and is placed at about 10 km away from Library Chowk. You can reach there with the help of a private car or by booking a cab as per your convenience. The distance from Dehradun is about 35 km so the journey won’t be much long. Be ready to get your blood curled!
